“What you do not want done to yourself, do not do to others.” –Confucius Overall, this short essay was hard to understand and follow, but if you have an open mind you can comprehend it, though don’t think too hard. I believe some of us think that we know who we are but how do you prove that is actually who you really are. There are no two people the same and so no one knows how you really are but yourself, and others would see you as someone/something else.įinding out who you really are is very hard, because all people think of you as someone who you’re not.
It was talking about us understanding who we really are on the inside or if who we are actually is real. What Thurman thought about finding your “Self”, was that this is the realization of how your environment affects you. It is this thing that makes us act in a way to others and that will cause us to become afraid of things.
But the way to do this was to try to get rid of the inner demon that is always telling you to do things and sometimes it’s a good thing and sometime it’s not. But what I thought it was about finding our own self.
In the essay “Wisdom” by Robert Thurman, it was very confusing and I wasn’t sure how to interpret the essay and it also was sure hard to follow. Potty trained at the age of 2 and reading?!?! huh Thanks for making me so smart Mom and Dad… NOT!!! Having the gift of life being given to you is the best thing in the world, and knowing what it’s going to look like before its born takes all the fun out of bringing a new life into the world. Eye color, hair color and sex of the baby should be up to the “genes” of the parents. Now what is the fun in that, I believe that it is up to nature what your children look like. Is it right to be able to pick out what you want your unborn child looks like? Uh, I don’t think so, being able to choose the “perfect” kid in your eyes. And that’s where Germinal Choice Technology (GCT) comes into play.
In 100 years, what do you think we are going to be able to do with plastic surgery, or maybe there won’t be such a thing? Maybe, everybody would be perfect even before they are born. I am really not for all this alteration, too much “plastic” surgery makes you look like a Barbie… PLASTIC! And no one wants to look like a Barbie, well maybe some do. Do you ever wander what they do to get that way? I’d say that plastic surgery plays a big role in these quick alterations to make them look “hot”. When you’re standing in line in the grocery store you always see all of the “hot” celebrity news and there is always an article on “guess who had liposuction” or “who went from a size 12 to a 5 in just a month”. I have access to both readings if you need to i will send it to you or give a link to them.Is altering your body right? Is it ok to change something that was specially created especially to be YOU? Being yourself and all “natural” is the way to be, but I am not saying that weight loss is bad or maybe a little physical enhancement is ok but Changing your appearance to impress people is not right, plastic surgery and eating disorders are just some of the things that people do to change their looks.Ĭelebrities really don’t set a good example because they are always getting something done to enhance or change their appearance.
